Terms of use
These terms explain how membership, contributions and our community work. We have kept them as short and clear as we can. If anything is unclear, please email us at contact@climatecurrent.eco.
1. About us
ClimateCurrent is run by ClimateCurrent OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia (registry code 17585921), with its registered office at Tornimäe tn 5, 10145 Tallinn, Estonia.
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" refer to ClimateCurrent OÜ, and "you" refers to you as a member.
2. What ClimateCurrent does
ClimateCurrent is a membership platform for climate action. We use contributions to support climate projects that reduce or remove greenhouse-gas emissions, and we report openly on how contributions are used and what they help to achieve.
3. Membership
Membership is free. Apart from the reporting to contributing members described in section 4, all community features are open to every member, whether or not they contribute. You can join from the age of 18, or the age of majority in your country if that is higher, if you live in a country where ClimateCurrent is available. We ask you to give us accurate information and to keep your sign-in links to yourself. You are responsible for what happens through your account.
When you join, we may ask you to register a card or bank account with our payment provider. Nothing is charged unless you choose to contribute. We do this to keep ClimateCurrent a pleasant place made up of real people.
You can end your membership at any time. We may suspend or end a membership if we reasonably believe these terms have been breached, for example in cases of fraud. Should we ever close the service, we will give you reasonable notice.
Companies take part under their own written agreements. These terms apply to individual members.
4. Contributions
You decide. Contributing is entirely voluntary. You can contribute monthly or make a one-off contribution, from the minimum amount shown when you contribute. You choose how much and for how long, and you can stop a monthly contribution at any time from your account; no further payments are taken after that.
What we show you. We report to contributing members on what their contributions are helping to achieve, and members who contribute may choose to appear on the public map. This is our way of accounting to you, not something your contribution buys: it cannot be claimed, transferred or exchanged for money, and we may change how we present it.
A gift, not a purchase. Your contribution is a gift to ClimateCurrent OÜ, which we use for our climate work. Because it is a gift, it does not buy a product or service and does not give you a financial return, an ownership interest, a claim on any project or an entitlement to any emission reduction. ClimateCurrent is not a charity, so contributions are not tax-deductible.
Payment. Payments are processed by our payment provider, currently Stripe, using the payment methods shown when you contribute. Before you confirm, we show you the amount, the currency, any tax added in your country (such as IVA in Colombia) and, for monthly contributions, when payments will be taken.
If something goes wrong. Any payment made in error is refunded in full, whether it is a duplicate payment, an incorrect amount, a payment taken after you stopped contributing or a payment you did not authorise. Simply email contact@climatecurrent.eco within 120 days of the payment and we will refund it to the card or account you used. Because contributions are gifts, we do not otherwise refund them on request. This does not affect any statutory right you may have, or your rights with your bank or card issuer, although we would ask you to contact us first, as we can usually put things right quickly.
5. The tonnes shown in your account
Your account shows an estimate of the tonnes of emissions your contributions are expected to help reduce or remove. We keep this estimate deliberately cautious, so that it is more likely to be exceeded than missed; should results fall short, we will correct it. It shows what your support is helping to make possible; it is not an offset of your own emissions and does not make you, or anything you do, "climate neutral" or "carbon neutral". For an explanation of how it is calculated, see how the estimate works.
6. Treating each other with respect
ClimateCurrent is a community, and we want everyone to feel welcome in it. When you send messages, post or take part in groups, please treat others with respect. In particular, you must not:
- harass, threaten, bully or intimidate anyone;
- post or send anything hateful, discriminatory, violent, sexually explicit or otherwise unlawful;
- send spam, advertising or other unsolicited commercial messages;
- impersonate anyone, or mislead others about who you are;
- share other people's personal information without their consent;
- misuse or interfere with the platform, or use another person's account or payment method.
You are responsible for what you post and send. It remains yours; you allow us to host, store, display, adapt and share it as needed to operate and improve ClimateCurrent. We will not sell your content without your permission. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we are grateful for them and may use them freely.
Groups. Groups may have their own admins and moderators, who can set and enforce additional rules for their group. We can also step in where these terms are broken.
Meeting other members. Members and groups sometimes arrange to meet, online or in person. These meetings are organised by members, not by us, and we do not check who members are or what they say about themselves. Please take the same care as you would when meeting anyone you do not know.
Reporting. You can report messages and people from within ClimateCurrent. Anyone, including people who are not members, can report unlawful content by emailing contact@climatecurrent.eco, stating where the content is and why it is unlawful.
How we keep the community safe. We use automated checks as well as reports from members to help keep the community safe, and some measures may be applied automatically.
If we reasonably believe that someone has broken these rules, we may, depending on how serious it is, remove or hide content, give a warning, restrict features such as messaging, posting or joining groups for a period or permanently, or suspend or end the membership. In serious cases, such as threats or unlawful content, we may act immediately and, where the law requires it, inform the authorities. We will tell you what we have done and why, unless the law or someone's safety prevents us, and you can ask us to reconsider by replying to that message. If a membership is suspended or ended, any monthly contribution stops.
7. Availability and liability
We are continually developing ClimateCurrent, and we may change, add or remove features. We work hard to keep it available, although we cannot guarantee that it will never be interrupted. The ClimateCurrent name, logo and platform belong to us.
We are not responsible for what members post or send, or for what happens when members meet.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for harm caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, we are liable only for harm that was reasonably foreseeable. Climate projects carry genuine risks, and their results cannot be guaranteed. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
8. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that is to your disadvantage, we will email you at least 30 days in advance, and you can stop contributing or end your membership before the change takes effect. Other changes, including those required by law, may take effect immediately.
9. Questions and complaints
We are always happy to help: email us at contact@climatecurrent.eco and we will respond to any complaint within 14 days. If we cannot resolve it, you may refer it to the Consumer Disputes Committee (Tarbijavaidluste komisjon) of the Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority, Endla 10A, 10122 Tallinn, www.ttja.ee, or to the consumer protection body in your own country.
10. General
Unless the mandatory laws of your country of residence require otherwise, these terms are governed by Estonian law. If any part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest remains in force. We may transfer these terms to a successor, without affecting your rights.
