We insist.

The bar is on the floor

The European Commission found that 53% of green claims give vague, misleading or unfounded information, and 40% have no supporting evidence at all.

Beating that is easy. We are aiming somewhere a lot less embarrassing.

02

Science and our results live apart

The figures here come from the IPCC, UNEP, the IEA, the US EPA and other named sources. They describe the world.

They are not ClimateCurrent results, and we never dress them up as ours.

03

Every number gets its boundary

A methane comparison needs a time horizon. A cost needs a sector and a price basis. A reduction needs a baseline. We send back any figure that arrives without one.

04

Tonnes are estimates, and say so

Tonnes are always estimated tonnes, a cautious estimate, and always tonnes your support helped make possible. They are never a company's or a person's own reductions, and they never offset anything.

These figures are estimates, which can go down.

05

Certificates stay with the work

The work we fund may earn certificates. Certificates for the part we paid for are ClimateCurrent's. We may sell them, and what a sale brings in goes back into methane work.

A company receives the tonnes it helps make possible, never a certificate it can report.

06

How we choose is a method

Three questions guide what we fund: does our money make it happen, does it work in time, and how much warming does it avoid per euro. It is an aim and a method, never a guarantee of a result.

07

The pictures are artwork

The dotted wave and the illustrations are brand artwork. None of them shows a funded project, a member count or a measured result.

Try it

Scan a green claim.

Most green claims fail the same four checks. Run the scanner on a made-up one and keep the checklist for the next advert you see.

A made-up claim

100% green. Climate positive. Net zero soon.

Questions about evidence

Asked and answered.

Will you fund work that would happen anyway?

We look for work that wouldn't happen without us. We don't fund work the law already requires, or work that is already fully paid for. What additionality means

How will ClimateCurrent report what its work achieves?

Follow the projects we co-finance and our first site. We'll publish what the work achieves, with its method and sources, and every figure will carry its boundary.

Are the images photographs of real projects?

No. The dotted wave and the illustrations are brand artwork. None of them shows a funded project, a member count or a measured result.

How do I report an error?
