Taking part.

What is ClimateCurrent?

ClimateCurrent brings people and companies together to fund climate work, and lets you follow what your part sets in motion. It is run by ClimateCurrent OÜ. Read our story

How does ClimateCurrent work?

A company pays for a place for each of its people, and each person decides whether to join. To start, we'll co-finance methane projects that can't go ahead without extra funding. At the same time we're building towards our own first site. You'll follow every step. Follow the first site

When can I join?

Companies, and the colleagues they invite, can take part now. Joining for yourself opens in November. Sign up for the newsletter and we'll email you that day. Newsletter

Can companies take part now?

Yes. Companies, and the colleagues they invite, can take part now. Your company pays for a place for each of your people, and they join if they want to. Joining for yourself opens in November.

Do our people have to take part?

No. Your people decide for themselves whether to join and what they share. Mandatory goodwill does not exist.

How do introductions work?

Share your link with someone who cares about the climate. They can keep their place too.

How old do I need to be?

18, or the age of majority in your country if that is higher.

Paying and giving.

Where the money goes.

What do you co-finance?

Methane projects that can't go ahead without extra funding. We don't fund work the law already requires, or work that is already fully paid for.

Do I lend anything if I take part?

No. The plan is that the lender finances the whole site at once, and ClimateCurrent repays it from what comes in each month. Nobody who takes part lends anything.

Who owns the certificates?

Certificates for the part we paid for are ClimateCurrent's. Every euro a sale brings in, after the costs of certifying and selling, goes back into methane work, including repaying the loan for the first site. None of it goes to ClimateCurrent's owner.

How do you choose the work you fund?

Three questions. Does our money make it happen? Does it work in time? How much warming does it avoid per euro? It is an aim and a method, never a guarantee of a result. The first site

Claims and evidence.

Does taking part offset my emissions?

No. The tonnes you see are a cautious estimate of what your support helped make possible, never your own reductions. Taking part does not offset emissions and does not make you, or anything you do, climate-neutral. How we handle evidence

Does our company receive certificates?

No. The work we fund may earn certificates. They are ClimateCurrent's, and what a sale brings in goes back into methane work. Your company receives the tonnes it helps make possible, not certificates.

Does cutting methane replace cutting CO₂?

No. Methane cuts slow warming in the near term. Deep, lasting CO₂ cuts decide where warming ends up. Both are needed.

Why not just plant trees?

Trees are wonderful. They are designed to solve a different problem: they grow slowly, and drought or fire can undo the work. Destroyed methane stays destroyed, and the cooling effect arrives within years.

Will you fund work that would happen anyway?

We look for work that wouldn't happen without us. We don't fund work the law already requires, or work that is already fully paid for. What additionality means

Where do your climate figures come from?

Named public sources: the IPCC, UNEP, the IEA, the US EPA and others. Every page links its sources. Those figures describe the world. They are not ClimateCurrent results. How we handle evidence

What changed in EU green-claims rules on 27 September 2026?

Member States must apply measures under Directive (EU) 2024/825 from that date. The rules target certain generic environmental claims and product claims of climate neutrality based on offsetting. The separate Green Claims proposal is a different text. Read the briefing

Can we claim climate results from taking part?

Not from taking part alone. Any claim needs evidence, a defined scope and wording that holds up under Directive (EU) 2024/825. The green-claims briefing
